Made from our best-selling Kingklip. These have their skin on – perfect for cooking on the braai as the skin allows for the moisture to be kept in the fillets. When cooked, the fillets are delicate and flake beautifully.
Cooking
Marination:
- Pat the Kingklip Fillets dry with a paper towel.
- Season generously with your favourite herbs and spices. Suggestions: garlic, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Allow the fillets to marinate for at least 30 minutes, letting the flavours infuse into the fish.
2. Preheat the Braai (15 minutes):
- Start your braai and allow the coals to reach a medium-high heat.
- Clean and oil the grates to prevent sticking.
3. Braai Time (8-10 minutes per side):
- Carefully place the marinated Kingklip Fillets on the preheated grill, skin side down first.
- Grill for 8-10 minutes per side, or until the skin is crispy, and the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
- Use a fish spatula for a gentle flip to ensure the skin remains intact.
4. Lemon Zest Finish:
- In the last 2 minutes of grilling, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the fillets for a zesty finish.

Sustainability
Kingklip tend to be found in deep rocky, sea-shelf environments. They are a very popular eating fish amongst South Africans. Our Kingklip is mainly caught at the Agulhas Bank off the South Coast.
The fishing method of choice is fishing line or “Hake demersal longline” that is set on the seabed with baited hooks around 1.5 metres apart. The lines can stretch over 10 kilometres.
Please have a look at SASSI website for a more detailed description on the sustainability for Kingklip in South Africa.
