The raw flesh varies from a pearly white to a delicate rose colour and cooks to a perfect milky white. Order our premium Kingklip fillets ready to cook and get them delivered straight to your door.

Cooking
When cooked, the fillets are delicate and flake beautifully. Kingklip has a slightly sweet meaty flavour. Generally too big for a pan so better for a braai. However, it can also be cut down to pan size and pan fried with olive oil for roughly 3min per side on a medium-high heat.
The easiest way to cook Kingklip is to grill it with a nice, simple garlic butter. Place Kingklip fillets on a lined tray with tinfoil and season it with salt & pepper and spice of your choice. Place a few knobs of garlic and butter on top of the fillet. Grill the kingklip for 8-10 minutes at 180 degrees celsius.

Kingklip tend to be found in deep rocky, sea-shelf environments. They are a very popular eating fish amongst South Africans. Our Kingklip is mainly caught at the Agulhas Bank off the South Coast.
The fishing method of choice is fishing line or “Hake demersal longline” that is set on the seabed with baited hooks around 1.5 metres apart. The lines can stretch over 10 kilometres.
